Education Funding
The Safeway Foundation supports numerous neighborhood schools and youth development organizations, as well as a broad range of after-school and physical education activities. Our donations help fund new computers, school supplies, art programs, curriculum enhancements, textbooks, music programs, gymnasiums and more.
You can activate donations to the school of your choice simply by shopping at Safeway. Just join the eScrip program and a percentage of your purchases will be donated to the school of your choice. See how easy it is to sign up.
Lucerne: Art of Dairy

Through our Lucerne® Art of Dairy™ Art Contest, Safeway is getting creative – literally – when it comes to promoting healthy behaviors in students. Students in grades 9-12 can submit a work of art featuring a cow and promoting dairy products as a healthy alternative to traditional snacks. After the initial submissions are judged, 30 finalists transfer their designs onto a life-sized fiberglass cow. The student with the winning design receives $20,000 for his/her school’s art department, plus $5,000 each for the artist and his/her art teacher.
Since 2005, the contest has awarded more than $374,000 in prize money that supports students’ creativity and their schools’ art departments, while also creating awareness of the importance of healthy eating and snacking. In 2012, more than 9,200 students submitted entries from schools across the country.
